Laws of Alaru

The following are the official Laws within the Empire.

High Crimes


  • Treason
    To aide or assist any enemy of the Empire, whether knowingly or unknowingly.
    ----Punishment----
    First Offense: Obliteration and loss of citizenship rights
    Second Offense: Banishment upon pain of permanent death


  • Magically Influencing Others
    To prevent an individual from being able to form or express their own opinions or make their own decisions through use of arcane or alchemical means.
    ----Punishment----
    First offense: Fine of 25 gold
    Second Offense: Fine of 50 gold
    Third + Offense: Fine of 100 gold


  • Celestial Creation or Summoning
    The Creating or summoning of any celestial elemental or golem.
    ----Punishment----
    The Caster is responsible for any actions that the summoned or created creature commits. Fine of 100 gold and destruction of golem or elemental.


  • Contempt
    Willful disobedience of the authority or declaration of nobility given the lawful orders made for the benefit of the people and the support of the law.
    ----Punishment----
    1 Death and Denial of citizenship rights


  • Forgery
    Falsely making or materially altering by hand or otherwise, with intent to defraud, any document or symbol which if genuine would be of legal efficacy or foundation of a legal claim
    ----Punishment----
    1 Death


  • Murder
    The unlawful and premeditated killing of a citizen of the Empire.
    ----Punishment----
    First Offense: 1 death; a fine of 30 gold
    Second Offense: 1 death; a fine of 100 gold
    Third + Offense: Obliteration


  • Necromancy
    The use of any spell, ability, or item that calls upon chaos or causes a chaos effect. Also the use of any spell, ability, or item that causes the creation or release of undead as well as the use of any spell, ability, or item that transforms a living being into undead.
    ----Punishment----
    First offense: 1 death; fine of 30 gold
    Second offense: Obliteration
    Third + offense: Obliteration and Denial of citizenship rights


  • Pretending to a Noble Title
    To knowingly present oneself by document or statement to be of noble station
    ----Punishment----
    1 Death


  • Resisting Arrest or Flight from Prosecution
    Unlawful flight to avoid a trial or punishment for a crime.
    ----Punishment----
    Automatic application of maximum penalty for the crimes or in the case of only a single penalty, the doubling of the punishment.



Low Crimes



  • Assault
    The unlawful use of force or violence, constraint or mischief upon a citizen of the Empire.
    ----Punishment----
    Fine of 20 gold


  • Arson
    The willful destruction or damage by fire to any property of another or of the Empire or the destruction of one's own property by fire if it is done for some later benefit
    ----Punishment----
    Fine of 10 gold; compensation to injured party


  • Blackmail
    Something of value obtained by threats of public exposure or criminal prosecution
    ----Punishment----
    First Offense: Fine of 10 gold
    Second Offense: Fine of 50 gold
    Third + Offense: Death


  • Bribery
    The offering, giving, receiving or solicitation of something of value for the purpose of influencing the action of a person responsible for the discharge of public or legal duties
    ----Punishment----
    Fine of 15 gold


  • Burglary
    The unlawful entry, usually at night, into a building or other structure with the intent to commit theft
    ----Punishment----
    First offense: Fine of 15 gold; compensation to injured party
    Second Offense: Fine of 50 gold; compensation to injured party
    Third + Offense: Death; compensation to injured party


  • Extortion
    To obtain something of value from a citizen of the empire by force, intimidation, or undue or illegal power.
    ----Punishment----
    Fine of 15 gold


  • False Accusation
    To bring charges of a commission of an illegal activity by an individual or individuals without the proper evidence to support it
    ----Punishment----
    Fine of 20 gold


  • Fencing Stolen Goods
    The sale of goods known to be stolen in expectation of monetary benefit.
    ----Punishment----
    Fine of 15 gold; compensation to injured party


  • Kidnapping
    The forcible and unlawful abduction or confinement of an individual against their will.
    ----Punishment----
    First offense: Fine of 30 gold
    Second Offense +: Death


  • Libel of a Public Official
    The penning of knowingly false or malicious words concerning another whereby such statements injure their reputation.
    ----Punishment----
    Fine of 10 gold


  • Slander of a Nobel
    The speaking of knowingly false or malicious words concerning another whereby such statements injure their reputation
    ----Punishment----
    Fine of 20 gold


  • Perjury
    To knowingly lie or make false or misleading statements to a noble or Empire officer in the course of an official investigation or trial
    ----Punishment----
    First Offense: Fine of 20 gold
    Second Offense: Death


  • Theft
    To use any portion of or take possession of the property of another against their will
    ----Punishment----
    Return of goods or equivalent compensation (restitution) and fine of 2 times item(s) monetary worth


  • Illegal Spells
    The following spells are illegal inside of Alaru or any of the surrounding areas.
    Charm, Charm Animal
    See Necromancy Above
    Any Magic or Arcane ability duplicating the above mentioned Illegal spells

    Second Offense: Destruction of spell book


  • Illegal Alchemies
    The following alchemies are illegal: Berserk, Enslavement, Dominate, Euphoria, Love, and Love Potion #9
    ----Punishment----
    First Offense: Loss of alchemy recipe book
    Second Offense: 50 gold piece fine and Loss of alchemy recipe book


  • Memory Altering Alchemies
    Forget-me-not and Forgot-it-well alchemies are restricted. This charge will be added if they are used to assist in the completion of a crime.

    First Offense: 15 gold piece fine
    Second Offense: 50 gold piece fine
